Significant Sites
The Enterprise Hostel Community Group is currently developing a ‘trail’ of public art, taking in locations which were significant to the settlement of migrants and refugees in Springvale. Locations include:
- The Tribute Garden at Lexington Gardens Retirement Village is the beginning of the Enterprise Trail.
- Springvale Community Aid and Advice Bureau where so many innovative settlement services were developed
- The Springvale Neighbourhood House which encouraged the formation of social groups among the newcomers
- The former Springvale Rise Primary School where the now nationwide Teacher’s Aide program was piloted.
- Centrelink the former Department of Social Security which worked with the community to develop open accessible services.
- Health marker placed in Springvale medical preinct to acknowledge health services provided at Enterprise.
- Springvale Road Shopping Centremarker which shows the changes to the Street to reflect the many waves of migration.
All these locations were included in the accompanied walks for residents, orienting them towards their new home. The late Sherron Dunbar, a worker at the Springvale Community Aid and Advice Bureau (SCAAB) initiated these tours which were held on a weekly basis.
